desktopNavigating the Interface

This chapter describes how to access the BMC web interface and navigate its main components. It covers the login process, homepage layout, quick-access controls, and session timeout behavior to help you begin using the interface efficiently.

Logging into the BMC Web UI

To access the BMC login page:

  1. Open a supported web browser.

  2. Enter the BMC IP address using the https:// protocol. Example: https://192.168.1.202

  3. If a certificate warning appears, click Advanced to proceed. This occurs because the default factory certificate is self-signed.

  1. When the login page loads, enter your credentials:

• Username: root

• Password: 0penBmc (Note: The first character is the digit “0”).

After successful authentication, the system redirects to the main dashboard.

Understanding the Homepage Layout

The ESN904 BMC web interface provides a clear layout designed for intuitive navigation. The homepage consists of the following components:

  • Header – Displays the product name, firmware version, current user session, and notification or logout options.

  • Left Sidebar Navigation – Located on the left side and organized into expandable categories, including:

    • Overview Summary of overall health and key metrics

    • Dashboard – Real-time system data and sensor information

    • Logs – Event logs, system logs, and POST code logs

    • Hardware Status – Inventory and component health details

    • Operations – Remote power control, diagnostics, firmware updates

    • Settings – Network, date/time, and system configuration

    • Security and Access – Authentication, certificates, users, and access policies

    • Resource Management – Remote console (KVM) and virtual media

    • BIOS – Remote access to BIOS configuration

  • Main Content Area – Shows the selected page’s detailed information.

  • Footer – Displays firmware version, copyright, and system-level identifiers.

Note: The exact interface layout may vary depending on firmware version and user permissions.

Using Quick Controls and Tools

The top-right area of the Overview page includes quick access controls that allow you to perform essential actions without navigating through multiple menus. These controls typically include:

  • Health Summary – Opens the Event Logs page to review system warnings and alerts.

  • Power Summary – Links to Server Power Operations under the Operations menu.

  • Refresh – Reloads the current page to update displayed information.

  • Quick Action – Opens a small menu with two options:

    • Profile Settings – Opens the user profile page and allows the logged-in user to change their password.

    • Logout – Logs the current user out of the BMC web interface and returns to the login page.

Session Timeout and Auto Logout Behavior

For security reasons, the BMC web interface automatically logs you out after a period of inactivity. When the session is about to expire, a popup warning appears, allowing you to stay logged in by clicking OK.

If no action is taken, the session ends automatically and you are returned to the login page. This mechanism prevents unauthorized access if the interface is left unattended.
